In 2013, Combs was reportedly involved in an altercation with J. Cole at the VMAs awards afterparty that same year. Multiple sources told Complex that a “visibly intoxicated” Diddy confronted Kendrick Lamar over his verse on Big Sean’s single ‘Control,’ where he claimed he was the “king of New York.” Combs reportedly attempted to throw a drink at Lamar before Cole intervened and the two became involved in a fight. However, The New York Post reported that the fight occurred after J. Cole said inappropriate things to Sean Combs and his girlfriend, Cassie. A witness told the media that “there was some pushing, but there were no punches. Although it was a moment of tension.” Both men denied the fight, but Cole would later rap on ‘Let Go My Hand’, “My last beef was with Puff Daddy, who would have thought?”
