Recently scientists have developed a genome editing system called CRISPR-Cas9 that can modify bacteria and viruses and bacteria. All it takes is a Mission Impossible 2 type rogue scientist to decide that the world is overpopulated and half the population could be dead. Let’s hope the CIA really has some Ethan Hunts available should the time come.
