With over 40 snake species, Oklahoma’s warmer weather makes it a prime habitat for these reptiles. The state’s diverse landscapes, including prairies, forests, and rocky ridges, support a wide range of snake species. Most of Oklahoma’s snakes are nonvenomous, but the state is also home to venomous species like the timber rattlesnake and copperhead. Prime snake season is during warmer weather, peaking in August. While most snakes prefer to avoid humans, it’s essential to be aware of their presence, especially in moist areas.
