Timothée Chalamet: one of the most recognizable male faces in the world

Timothée Hal Chalamet was born in New York on December 27, 1995 to a French father and an American mother. Growing up in Manhattan, every summer he spent several months in Le Chambon sur Lignon with his paternal grandparents, further strengthening his bond with France. In the Chalamet family, the DNA speaks for itself: all are artists. As well as her mother, a famous Broadway dancer, her uncle is the director Rodman Flender and her older sister, Pauline Chalamet, is also an actress. Immersed in this context, the young Timothée had no doubts about the type of career to pursue.

After graduating from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, also in NY, he gets secondary roles in films that still manage to highlight his talents. Among the most recognizable, that of Tom, the boy son of Matthew McConaughey, later played in his adult version by Casey Affleck in Interstellar, film by Christopher Nolan. However, Chalamet’s consecration comes thanks to Luca Guadagnino, who after choosing him as the protagonist at the age of only 22 for the film “Call me by your name”, will make Chalamet a real phenomenon.

Elio’s interpretation will get the young man the award for best emerging actor at the Hollywood Film Awards , as well as several nominations including BAFTA, Golden Globe and even the 2018 Oscars for the category of best actor in a drama. His resume also includes parts in films such as Do n’t Look Up, an original Netflix comedy by Adam McKay, alongside Leonardo di Caprio, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence and Cate Blanchett. Last among his most iconic roles, the protagonist in the blockbuster DUNE by Denis Villenueve, in which he plays the young Prince Paul Atreides.

The new face of Blue de Chanel

After this succession of successes, it is no wonder that the French Maison strongly wanted Chalamet as the new testimonial for its men’s fragrance Bleu de Chanel, created in 2010. A former testimonial of the perfume, it was the actor Gaspard Ullier, who died tragically in January 2022 following a skiing accident. The fragrance, perfected in 2018 with the Parfum version signed by Olivier Polge, in collaboration with the Laboratoire Parfums Chanel, is presented as an aromatic-woody fragrance, embellished with amber notes, cedar and sandalwood; unconventional ingredient in men’s perfumery. And Timothée Chalamet represents just that, a new conception of masculinity that challenges customs and does not remain imprisoned in the rigid dictates of the old male stereotype, now highly anachronistic. Not only that, it is understood that the actor’s face represents a type of beauty capable of appealing to cinema as well as to fashion.

To direct the short film: Martin Scorsese

The million-dollar advertising campaign sees Chalamet as the protagonist, but what makes this collaboration even more exclusive is the involvement of the Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese as director of the advertising film, a short that we will see next autumn. The photos, on the other hand, some of which are already present on Timothée’s social networks, are immortalized by Mario Sorrenti, and will see the light in mid-June. The Blue de Chanel man is therefore preparing to embark on a journey into the new archetypes of beauty; paradigms that Chanel has found in the young and androgynous face of the actor, symbol of Gen Z and already considered among the most beautiful men in the world.

Great expectations

The short films of Chanel fragrances, as we know, are real films. Unforgettable was the one starring Nicole Kidman for Chanel N°5 , directed by director Baz Luhrmann in 2004, in the wake of the success of Moulin Rouge, also directed by Luhrmann starring the Australian actress. A partnership that made the world of Chanel perfumes even more iconic. Expectations for this new advertising campaign with Chalamet are therefore very high, and as the actor assures us in an interview, we won’t be disappointed.
